The Colours of Cinque Terre

One of the dangers of travelling is settling for the familiar instead of pushing into unexplored territory. We have done plenty of both but one area we knew we had to return to was Cinque Terre. Instead of staying at the 'bottom end' of this region in La Spezia like last time, we decided to change things up and stay at the 'top end' in Levanto. Were we ever glad we did because Levanto proved to be a delightful little town with its own special character. From Levanto we took the train each day to take in the towns of the Cinque Terre. The colours is what hits you over and over again.  Homes are tucked away in narrow 'streets' and everything is either up or down. We have looked at each numerous times on this trip and said, "People actually live here!" These cliff hugging towns aren't just a photo op, they are homes for people. We started with Riomaggiore and then continues through Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, and Monterossa. All are distinctively different with Monterossa being the least colourful. Repeats are not a bad thing when they are so charmingly beautiful.
