Siena - Medieval City

Siena is a lovely medieval city renowned for its red brick buildings inside a city wall. The Piazza del Campo with its Fountain of Joy and the Siena Duomo with its incredible marble flooring, striped pillars, and beautiful Piccolomini Library frescoes are the two main highlights. We did, however, ask ourselves about the Biblical stories chosen to be put into the Duomo's flooring. The butchering of the innocent babies in Bethlehem by Herod and the killing of Absalom seemed a little grizzly for a church floor. The colours of the frescoes in the Piccolomini were definitely a highlight of our Siena visit. We especially enjoyed walking the streets which took us back in time.
