North of Split we discovered a beautiful park called Krka National Park. It is a long river system with steep gorges, deep blue lakes, and incredible waterfalls. We started our visit by walking through the Skradinski Waterfalls which are literally hundreds of little and not so little waterfalls cascading down underneath and around wooden walkways that let you pass metres away from the rushing water. It was magical. Then we visited Visovacko Lake which has an island with a Franciscan monastery on it. (What's with all the islands with monasteries and churches on them?) Finally we drove to Roski Slap (another waterfall system) before climbing out of the gorge. What an amazing park and yet you'd never know it was there until you drove to the edge and looked down into it. Yet another reason to put Croatia on your travel checklist!
