There is one part of Paris that cannot be overlooked (it's hard to overlook because it overlooks the city), it is the area known as Montmartre. Home to artists for over a century, this neighbourhood has a unique flavour. At one time everybody from Monet to Renoir to Degas to Van Gogh to Picasso lived and worked on the hill. Now it is way too expensive for any artist to live up there but you can find dozens of them roaming the streets or sitting in the plaza ready to paint or draw your portrait. It is also home to the Sacre Coeur Basilica which has the best view, with music, over the city. Unfortunately we ended up listening to a balladeer butchering every Simon and Garfunkel song he could think of and so we moved on sooner than we wanted. We were on the budget tour but for one evening we splurged for a ten dollar Coke and equally over the top priced drinks and meals while watching the artists ar work. It was all about ambience and creating yet another memory.
