Ajaccio - Napoleon's Hometown

Traveling to new places is always a mix of curiosity and excitement. We knew a little about Corsica but didn't really know what all to expect. During our time here we found ourselves constantly looking at each other and saying 'Wow' because this island was one pleasant surprise after another. Corsica is a mountainous Mediterranean island which belongs to France but also has an Italian flavour to it. It is the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte and every city square seems to have a statue of him. The coastline is stunning with picturesque ports and sandy beaches with clear blue green water. The mountains are craggy with the most unbelievably perched hill towns on them. Most of the island is covered with forests and we often felt like we were driving through BC (although we don't have extremely steep single track roads like these back home).

We started with a few sunny days in Napoleon's hometown of Ajaccio (actually it was sunny every day in Corsica). We stayed near the harbour and enjoyed walking up and down the shoreline into the heart of this port city. After wandering around the city we decided to go along the coast on either side of the city to idyllic beaches where we relaxed and enjoyed the scenery.
