Cathedrals d'Excellence

Paris has some of the most beautiful cathedrals in the world. We lived near the Notre Dame so we walked past it almost daily and always felt our eyes drawn upward towards its two towers and the flying buttresses. It's hard to believe that it was almost condemned two hundred years ago until Victor Hugo wrote that 'hunchback' book which revived interest in restoring it. For us the best part was climbing up to visit the gargoyles. (And poor St. Denis still can't put his head on.)

Sacree Coeur in Montmartre is a magnificent church but more than anything it has a fantastic view overlooking the city. Sainte Chapelle has the most impressive display of stained glass to be found anywhere. Madeleine Cathedral was a nice surprise as we walked towards the Paris Opera House. And that's the best part about walking through Paris - we kept on finding more and more sights to see just by going for a wander through the streets.
