The first thing that we saw when we arrived in Shetland (besides the gorgeous sunshine) were all the signs explaining the unique Shetland sayings and way of talking. The second thing we noticed as we left the Sumburgh airport was that we had to cross the airport runway. When flights are arriving or departing, the runway is closed until it is safe to cross it. How often have you had to slow down for otters? We thought the litter poster was catchy. Shetlanders are very proud of their Viking heritage.
